About Me

Tom Foster is a Boston-based film composer, music producer, and sound designer whose work blends emotional storytelling with a refined technical craft. Originally from South Africa, Tom has built a career around shaping music and sound that feels deeply connected to the stories it supports - whether in film, long-form documentary, short-form media, or immersive audio projects.

His early work with the Sea Change Project - where he served as head composer, sound designer, and mix/mastering engineer - placed him at the intersection of creative storytelling and environmental filmmaking. During this time, he contributed additional music to My Octopus Teacher, the Academy Award and BAFTA-winning Netflix documentary, and helped develop a body of work focused on intimate, human-centered narratives about the natural world.

As a composer, Tom specializes in creating narrative-driven, emotionally resonant scores that balance expressive composition with detailed production. His approach blends acoustic and hybrid writing, thoughtful orchestration, and bespoke sound design, all shaped by a sensitivity to character, pacing, and visual rhythm. Whether he’s building a textural, atmospheric palette or writing a melody that anchors an entire film, Tom prioritizes clarity of intention and a close collaboration with directors and editors. In addition to scoring, Tom is an experienced producer, mix engineer, and recording specialist. He has worked with respected artists including Zolani Mahola, Yo-Yo Ma & the Sea Change Project, Genevieve & Milo, and others - shaping songs and sonic worlds with the same narrative instincts he brings to film. He is fluent in Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic Pro, Steinberg software, and advanced mixing workflows, and he brings a meticulous attention to detail to every stage of the audio process.

Tom is currently completing his Film Scoring degree at Berklee College of Music, supported by the Berklee World Tour Scholarship. Alongside his studies, he continues to score films, produce music, and take on sound design and post-production work for a diverse range of clients. Known for his collaborative mindset and openness to creative challenges, he thrives in environments where storytelling, technology, and musical intuition intersect. He aims to build a career scoring films that prioritize human connection, emotional depth, and bold creative choices - while continuing to explore the evolving possibilities of music and sound in visual media.
